On the penultimate day of the official closure of Margam Depot, 08752 underwent a power unit change using the engine block from 09003 and a reconditioned generator from Ferrybridge. The power unit change was carried out using Margam Depot's 75 Ton Cowans Sheldon Crane manned by a supervisor, crane driver and four slingers. The power unit from 09003 was removed some weeks earlier and the defective generator was changed prior to 08752 arriving at Margam Depot.
