Finding Allied Steel & Wire

Allied Steel & Wire Steelworks is situated two and one half miles south east of Cardiff on the A4232 Docks ring road. There is no regular public transport passing this location and it is not visible from any passenger line.

Directions from outside Cardiff:- Allied Steel & Wire is easiest reached by taking the A48M to Cardiff off J30 of the M4, continuing along this motorway into the A48 and taking the A4161 exit signposted Docks and City Centre. Continue along this dual carriage way taking the right hand fork signposted A4232 Docks, which is the flyover to the roundabout in front of you, taking the second exit into Rover Way at the next roundabout signposted A4232 Docks. Allied Steel & Wire Steelworks is two miles further along this road on the right hand side and the stabling point is adjacent to the second mini roundabout.

Directions from Canton Depot:- Turn right outside the main entrance from Canton Depot into Leckwith Road, immediately turning right into Ninian Park Road and continuing into Tudor Street. Turn right at the first set of traffic lights into Clare Road and first left at the next cross roads into Pendyris Street, turning right at the T junction into Taffs Mead Embankment. Continue to the traffic lights turning left into Penarth Road and follow this into Tresillian Way passing Cardiff Central station set back on the left hand side of the road. Continue straight ahead through Bute Square into Herbert Street leading into Tyndall Street, straight ahead across the flyover roundabout turning right at the "Magic" roundabout into Ocean Way and follow this road for a further one and half miles passing through two further roundabouts and Allied Steel & Wire is on the left hand side of the road.   

Note: The Class 37 locomotives stored at the Castle Works can be viewed by turning first right into East Moors Road after turning right at the Magic Roundabout into Ocean Way. Follow this road for approximately one half mile and the locomotives are stored behind Apex Car Leasing on the right hand side of the road before the administration offices of Allied Steel & Wire on the left handside of the road.
